Every employee involved in rigging and lifting operations must fully understand the hazards associated with load handling, rigging equipment, suspended loads, and material movement. Vertex Safety Resources provides the knowledge and skills necessary to safely participate in rigging operations; however, each individual is responsible for following safe work practices, recognizing hazards, and operating within their training and limitations.
The Competent Rigging course is designed for experienced telecommunications riggers, supervisors, qualified personnel, and individuals responsible for planning, evaluating, and overseeing lifting operations. This advanced course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired through rigging experience and focuses on the requirements of ANSI/ASSP A10.48, rigging calculations, equipment evaluation, construction plan review, rigging plan development, and safe supervision of lifting activities utilizing capstan hoists and related lifting systems.
Participants receive instruction in pre-job planning, hazard assessment, sling and rope applications, rigging hardware inspection, center of gravity determination, sling tension calculations, capstan hoist applications, rigging force calculations, signal person responsibilities, and rigging plan development. Upon successful completion, participants will be prepared to evaluate rigging operations, develop rigging plans, and oversee safe lifting activities in accordance with industry standards and employer requirements.

- Minimum 18 years of age
- Proof of employment in the telecommunications industry for a minimum of three years
- Proof of current Authorized or Competent Rigger Certification (must be current within the previous 24 months)
